The band has had their share of fast-paced songs, such as “Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide” or “Adrenaline,” but “No Sleep Tonight” is thrash-like and punky.

“2184,” introduces listeners with a synthesizer, lasting only twenty seconds or so before the first full song, “No Sleep Tonight,” hits with a pulsating bang. The first thing I noticed was that there are twenty tracks on the album! Upon careful inspection, it looks as though there is an intro track and about half a dozen interludes. So here I am, sitting with the full album, “Planet Zero,” just before its release. I want to be brought back to the days when albums mattered. My answer would be that it’s because I’m a true fan that I wanted to hear the band’s latest work together in all of its glory. Some of you might be wondering how I can be a true fan and not listen to the singles the day each of them was released. I also heard that this would be something of a concept album so I did something I have never done before- I purposefully avoided listening to any of the singles released thus far until I could hear the album straight through in its entirety.

Last autumn, when the band first announced that a new album would be released in early 2022, I couldn’t have been more excited. Shinedown’s upcoming studio album will mark the band’s follow-up to 2018’s “ATTENTION ATTENTION,” which scored the band a bevy of rock radio hits in “Monsters,” “Get Up” and “Devil.” The band broke out in 2003 with their debut album, “Leave a Whisper,” which featured the chart-topper “Fly from the Inside.I have been listening to Shinedown for nearly twenty years now and they have yet to release an album I didn’t like. Smith added that Shinedown “have often said that ‘We only have one boss, it just happens to be everyone in the audience,’ and we take that very seriously.” “That being said we as a band must constantly embark on the next level.” “Certain artist have a very specific style that works for them, and they will focus primarily on that style, and we say more power to them, and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” he added. “It’s not in our nature, and quite frankly it’s not who we are.” “We never want to make the same album twice,” Smith said. Smith also stated that Shinedown actually started writing for a new album back in June 2020 and are “currently still in that process.” “Lyrics will change, melodies can change until we are fundamentally all in the right place with one another, before the actual recording of the album begins.” “We never rush the creative process, especially when it comes to writing the songs as they are constantly being revised,” Smith added, as part of a caption to a photo of band members Zach Myers and Eric Bass performing in the studio. We are primarily focusing on writing at this point.” Frontman Brent Smith took to Instagram to write, “To everybody that has been curious about what is going on in the land of Shinedown here is an update. Shinedown have posted news about the status of the band’s upcoming album. With large scale concerts and touring still on hold, Shinedown are using their time to focus on writing a new album
